Great Grants

This section of JPhilanthropy.com is under construction. Eventually, it will be a place where each year you can find examples of "great grants" that Jewish teens have made. As important, the list can generate a discussion across the country about what exactly is "great" when it comes to giving and changing the world.

To pilot this section, some teens and adults who work with Jewish youth foundations brainstormed about what might make a "great grant." Some ideas:

  • A great grant is linked to a Jewish value we can name
  • A great grant supports an effective organization whose impact we can see
  • A great grant is the result of knowledge and research, about an issue and an organization
  • Some great grants support new ideas and innovation
  • Some great grants attack the root causes of social problems, while others help organizations that are extremely effective in meeting immediate needs
  • A great grant has some kind of lasting impact on the giver

Any ideas or comments about what makes a great grant? Post in our forum (coming soon).

For now, you can click here to learn about a few interesting grants made by Jewish youth foundations in 2005.
